#CRAFT Tutorial: Day of the Dead Apron!

Hola!!

I've been in a super good mood lately because FALL is finally here! For me, that means cooking and CRAFTING for Halloween, Day of the Dead and beyond!

Crafty Chica products on sale at Michael's stores nationwide

All summer I've been dreaming about buying a "Day of the Dead" apron to do all my cooking in. They are pretty easy to find here in San Diego (not to mention online) but hijole, are they pricey! They start at $40 (at least the cute ones do) and that is waaaay out of my budget.

That's why I was thrilled to be asked to be among the first to try out Crafty Chica's new line of products for Michael's stores. I received a set of Crafty Chica Juicy Fabric Markers (ret. $4.99) and some Iron & Embellish Flocked Transfers (ret. $4.99).  I immediately ran to my local Ross and found the perfect apron for only $8!!
Yipee Skipee- I LOVE ROSS!
I was also lucky enough to get to see Kathy Cano-Murillo (aka Crafty Chica) demo these products in person at my local Michael's!

I was especially impressed by the Juicy Fabric Markers. Not only do they not have to be heat-set like other fabric markers(just let them dry for at least 20 minutes and you're good to go!) BUT you can also apply them with plain water and a paintbrush to achieve cool "watercolor" effects like color blending and ombre!

I left very inspired to start my own project. I began by applying the Iron & Embellish Flocked Transfer to my apron with an iron, it took only 65 seconds! The transfers are extremely detailed and have a great, velvety feel to them.
Then it was time to grab those markers and go to town!
more fun than a coloring book!

I was thrilled with my new Day of the Dead apron-I'm going to feel so festive while I do my holiday cooking!
I'm sure I'll add even MORE color over the holidays!

But I couldn't stop there...

I also made this fun t-shirt for Zumba class using the same two products. It reminds me that the only thing I need to achieve my dreams is the drive that comes from a passionate heart!

Thanks Kathy, for letting me test-drive these awesome products-I can't stop using them!

Thanks everyone-stop by your local Michael's and pick up these great markers-I keep coming up with more things to use them on! My daughter decorated her sneakers and I'm thinking of doing pillowcases or dishtowels next. So much crafting fun for only $5!! :)
