NIFTY THRIFTY! Electric Ladylamp...

Hello all! Just a little "Nifty Thrifty" to help launch the weekend. I spotted this beauty in a local thrift shop just after we moved into our current home. It was love at first sight...

How did the Salvation Army KNOW I needed a lamp?
I am a sucker for a great "figure" lamp and am always on the lookout for one. This one was in beautiful condition and even the linen shade still looked flawless. I'm not entirely sure whether the statue is of a woman or a man-but for $4? Who cares?! The only caveat was that the switch seemed to be broken and the SA couldn't guarantee whether the lamp would be functional.

I must admit, I was so smitten that I was even willing to pay the $40-$50 it might cost to have her re-wired. But come on, how could I possibly say no to this face?
I hadn't even walked out of the Salvation Army and already, in my mind, I was curled up on my sofa, reading vintage copies of Weight Watchers Magazine ("For Attractive People") and sipping a low-cal mai tai with Martin Denny's "Quiet Village" playing in the background. Yes, I have that vivid an imagination! So I paid my 4 bucks, took her home, plugged her in and....marveled at the darkness.

The lamp rewiring place was closed for the weekend so I decided to ask the helpful folks at my neighborhood hardware store (Hi, everyone at Hillcrest ACE!) and the nice fellow there suggested I try adding a new switch to the existing wiring before taking it in. Since the switch was only 80 cents, I didn't have much to lose. So I cut the wire and installed the switch per the directions. I was surprised how easy it was!
It's never too late to make a switch!
That was almost 5 years ago and I still think it might have been the best $4.80 I ever spent. Now, if SkinnyGirl would only come out with a premixed mai tai, I'd really be in business!

Wishing you love with extra cheese-
