How did the Salvation Army KNOW I needed a lamp? |
I must admit, I was so smitten that I was even willing to pay the $40-$50 it might cost to have her re-wired. But come on, how could I possibly say no to this face?
I hadn't even walked out of the Salvation Army and already, in my mind, I was curled up on my sofa, reading vintage copies of Weight Watchers Magazine ("For Attractive People") and sipping a low-cal mai tai with Martin Denny's "Quiet Village" playing in the background. Yes, I have that vivid an imagination! So I paid my 4 bucks, took her home, plugged her in and....marveled at the darkness.
The lamp rewiring place was closed for the weekend so I decided to ask the helpful folks at my neighborhood hardware store (Hi, everyone at Hillcrest ACE!) and the nice fellow there suggested I try adding a new switch to the existing wiring before taking it in. Since the switch was only 80 cents, I didn't have much to lose. So I cut the wire and installed the switch per the directions. I was surprised how easy it was!
It's never too late to make a switch! |
